Description
Get ready to discover the wonders of Europe's most majestic active volcano! Your adventure will take you through fascinating landscapes, from ancient lava flows and dramatic craters to an intriguing lava tube. And as a grand finale, prepare for an absolutely stunning panoramic vista stretching across the beautiful Sicilian coastline.
Get ready for an unforgettable adventure amidst landscapes unlike anything you've ever seen! Our journey takes you to the heart of Etna's volcanic activity, focusing on the Southeast Crater – the mountain's youngest and most dynamic summit vent, responsible for the recent fiery displays.
We'll kick things off at 9:30 am, meeting at "La Baita 3L ski lab" (1,900 meters above sea level). Your expert guide will be there to greet you. After a quick check-in, we'll set off at 10:00 am sharp!
The adventure begins with a scenic cable car ride soaring to 2,500 meters. From there, with your volcanological guide leading the way, we'll ascend to approximately 3,000 meters. Prepare to be amazed!
At this breathtaking altitude, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of Etna's majestic summit craters: the Central Crater (split into Bocca Nuova and Voragine), the Southeast Crater, and the Northeast Crater. You'll also witness the remnants of the volcano's latest eruptions and even venture through a 200-meter lava tube!
After exploring the base of the summit area and the sites of recent eruptions, we'll begin our descent on foot. Our path will lead us through landscapes shaped by more recent volcanic activity and into the dramatic Bove Valley. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy stunning panoramic vistas of the Ionian coast, including the Aeolian Islands and Calabria.
Finally, we'll return to our starting point via the cable car. This round-trip hike lasts approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. It's rated as medium-high difficulty, so it's best suited for those accustomed to walking. Are you ready to experience the raw power and beauty of Etna?
