Description
Quiet trails off the tourist routes are the point of this Etna jeep tour from Catania, a morning outing of about five and a half hours in an air-conditioned jeep or van, from a meeting point you choose when booking. During the drive to 2,000 metres, a professional guide tells the story of the volcano and explains its nature.
Once there you set off on foot, which means a closer look at the plants and animals without the crowds. The guide points out different sides of Etna: its resources, its landscapes and the huge lava flows that have shaped the land and destroyed buildings and roads.
- Hornitos, left by ancient explosive activity
- Lava flow caves, with helmet and torch provided
- Valle del Bove, famous for its lava desert
- Tastings of products from the Zafferana Etnea area
A panoramic point looks over the Valle del Bove, a major valley on the volcano's eastern flank. Before heading back you taste typical products of the Zafferana Etnea area. Trekking shoes are available on request, and there is a car seat for infants aged 0 to 2.
Closed shoes or sneakers are required, with no flip-flops or sandals. The itinerary may be changed or cancelled for safety in bad weather. Hotel pickup is not included, and extra food and drink are paid for separately.
