From here, the actual trek begins: you will traverse lava landscapes, breathing in the fresh high-altitude air and observing the volcano’s energy up close. You will explore a striking lava tube, a tunnel formed by ancient lava flows, surrounded by shiny black walls that bear witness to millennia of geological history. The hike continues to an altitude of 9,840 feet (3,000 meters), amidst smoke, gas, and glowing rocks, until you reach the active craters of Mount Etna. You will find yourself surrounded by lunar landscapes, and as you look out over the Bove Valley, you will experience an incredibly powerful moment: the sun will illuminate the expanses of rock and lava, creating a scenery unlike any other in the world.
