Conquer Europe's highest active volcano, Mount Etna, on a secure and unforgettable adventure led by expert, licensed guides specializing in both mountains and volcanology. Our journey begins near Rifugio Sapienza, at approximately 1900 meters. A scenic cable car whisks you up to around 2500 meters, launching your trek. Traverse the landscape shaped by recent and significant eruptions, ascending to the highest point currently permitted. These access limits are subject to change based on ongoing volcanic activity assessments. Enjoy a well-deserved 30-minute break to savor refreshments, absorb the breathtaking panoramic views, and capture some stunning photographs. Next, we'll explore the Barbagallo craters, remnants of the 2002/03 eruption. Our descent takes us down the eastern flank, towards the awe-inspiring Valle del Bove. This ancient caldera, formed approximately 9000 years ago by the collapse of Etna's old volcanic centers (as recent studies indicate), reveals a dramatic chapter in the volcano's history. Continuing southward, we'll reach the base of the crater from the massive 2001 eruption. After crossing this impressive geological feature, we'll head back towards the cable car for a comfortable return to our starting point.
