Description
This Etna guided trek with transfer from Catania takes care of the logistics. Round-trip transport from downtown Catania, the cable car and 4x4 bus tickets, a volcanological guide for the whole time on Etna and the gear are all part of it, so there is nothing else to organize.
After the cable car and the 4x4 bus, you set off on a moderate-level walk toward the summit craters over lava fields, black volcanic sand and rugged rock. On clear days the view extends across Sicily and the Mediterranean, and the guide explains the geology, the activity and the history of the volcano.
The terrain is uneven, rocky and sandy, with slopes and high-altitude sections, so the trek suits those at ease on rough ground and in decent shape. Temperature and wind on the mountain often differ a lot from Catania, so dress for real mountain conditions.
