Etna: Tour of the Four Craters Easy Day Trip

Departure from Catania towards Mount Etna, ascent by 4x4 to 2930 m, then trekking with a volcanology and mountain guide to the summit (3340 m) and the 4 active craters: South-East, Bocca Nuova, North-East, and Central.

Embark on an adventure on the highest active volcano in Europe with expert mountain and volcanic guides and reach the highest currently accessible altitudes of Mount Etna. The tour will start comfortably from several pick-up points in Catania and then, by private minivan, you will reach Piano Provenzana on the north side of Mount Etna, the wildest, most authentic, and most natural side of the volcano, far from the most crowded areas. After receiving the necessary trekking gear (boots, helmets, jackets, poles), you will continue in private 4x4 vehicles for the exclusive use of the group up to an elevation of approximately 2,800 meters. Thanks to the dedicated service, there will be no waiting or lines during transfers. From here, the guided trekking will begin, along a route of about 6 km with an elevation gain of about 500 meters, until reaching 3,300 meters, the top of the summit area, to visit the four active craters of Etna: Bocca Nuova, Centrale, Sud-Est and Nord-Est. During the hike, you will walk on lava flows from past eruptions, getting a close-up view of volcanic formations, fumaroles, and phenomena related to Etna's activity. Once at altitude, you can enjoy a spectacular panorama of Sicily and Calabria and, on clear days, as far as the Aeolian Islands. After a break for photos, the descent will begin to a suitable spot for the packed lunch. Immediately afterwards, the 4x4 vehicles will be waiting for you to return to the departure station, where the gear will be returned and you will be transported to Catania. The total duration of the experience is approximately 5–6 hours, after which you will return to the pick-up point.
