Description
The Etna sunset tour with pickup, starting and ending in Catania, is easy enough for children and adults. A naturalistic guide explains the volcano as you walk on ancient craters and among lava streams of different shades, smell Etna's vegetation and enter caves where lava once flowed.
The first stop is a local farm in Zafferana Etnea for a tasting that includes Etna honey, wine and olive oil. Then come the Valle del Bove and the lava stream of 1991-93, which got as far as Zafferana Etnea itself, a volcanic cave visited with helmets and torches provided, and a stroll on lateral craters at 2,000 m in the golden hour.
- Pickup and drop-off at a meeting point in Catania, in an air-conditioned vehicle
- A multilingual guide
- Helmet and flashlight for the cave
The highest point reached is 2,100 m, so the summit is not part of the tour. Lunch and water are not included. In bad weather the guide may change the itinerary for safety. Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility, heart or altitude problems.
