Description

Enter via dei Crociferi, at the intersection with the western part of via Vittorio Emanuele, through the arch of San Benedetto.

On the small square, the imposing church of San Francesco d'Assisi all'Immacolata stands. At the center, a statue depicting Cardinal Giuseppe Benedetto Dusmet, in an act of charity towards the people, is located. This work was created by sculptor Silvestre Cuffaro (1932).

Opposite the church is the elegant Palazzo Gravina Cruyllas, where Vincenzo Bellini lived. It now houses the Museo Civico Belliniano and the Museo Emilio Greco. In the rooms dedicated to Emilio Greco, there are 159 works, including lithographs and etchings, created between 1955 and 1992.

The other noble residence on Piazza San Francesco is the imposing Palazzo Platania (19th century), which blocks the view of the exterior façade of the Teatro Antico to the east.

In the square, to the east of the monument, a vast and important votive deposit was recovered.
