Description

In the center of Piazza Martiri, on a column, stands the statue of Saint Agatha, depicted as she tramples a dragon. It was erected by the Senate in 1743 to commemorate the city's escape from the plague. Legend has it that the saint's relics were carried in procession, and the plague ceased.
