Description
Two very different landscapes share one day on the Etna and Alcantara Gorges tour. You are picked up at your hotel, bed and breakfast or apartment, so there is no meeting point to find, and the whole outing takes around six hours.
First comes the Etna 2000 area, between about 1,800 and 2,150 metres. You walk among extinct craters and old lava flows, and on a clear day the view reaches the sea. The route is easy and has no hard trekking, which makes it fine for families, couples and friends.
The second half moves to the Alcantara Gorges, a canyon cut by water through lava rock. There is time to look at the basalt walls, take photos and learn why the place looks the way it does. At the end of the day you taste typical Sicilian liqueurs.
The guide speaks Italian and English. Because volcanic activity, weather and the state of the group can all matter, the itinerary may be changed on the day, and the sites visited depend on their availability.
