Description
This Etna off-road tour, with a trek to the summit craters, starts at Piano Provenzana. You board an all-terrain vehicle and head up over hardened lava and dark sand, alongside the fracture the 2002 eruption opened.
The vehicle stops at the Pizzi Deneri observatory, at around 2,840 meters. From there you continue on foot, gaining roughly 300 meters across slag and volcanic bombs, up to about 2,900 meters. The whole outing lasts around two and a half hours.
At the top the view opens onto the two valleys of Bove and Leone, and the summit craters themselves. A volcanology guide goes with you.

Meals, drinks and equipment are not included. The trek is not recommended for anyone with back, heart or breathing problems. It is a good match if you want the wild, powerful side of Etna.
