Description
A local skipper takes you north along the Ionian coast to Aci Trezza on this sailboat tour from Catania, talking about the terrain and the history of the area as you go. It lasts about four hours, and you board at the port of Catania, at the Club Nautico dock reached through the Dogana Gate.
The coast is the draw. The shoreline is dark rock left where old lava met the sea, and a few tough plants cling to it. Further on, the Castle of Aci Castello stands on a cliff above the water. At Aci Trezza the boat stops for a swim, with snorkelling gear on board for looking at fish, or a try at stand-up paddleboarding.
Back on the boat you are served a glass of Italian sparkling wine with a spread of local bites: seasoned cheese, tomatoes, cured meats and bread with pesto. Then the boat sails back to Catania.
- Aci Castello castle seen from the water
- Aci Trezza and its stop for swimming
- Snorkelling gear and SUP equipment included
The boat is a Beneteau Sense 55, a Dufour 41 or an Oceanis 39, depending on how many people join, and the route may shift a little with sea and weather conditions. Boarding is paid separately on site. Children under 5 and wheelchair users cannot take part.
